Côte d'Ivoire, also known as the Ivory Coast, lies in West Africa on the Gulf of Guinea. It borders Mali, Burkina Faso, Liberia, Guinea and Ghana. The country covers 322.5 thousand km² and is home to more than 60 ethnic groups. Islam is the dominant religion, although there are also Catholics, Protestants and followers of animist beliefs. Thanks to the tropical climate, the best time to visit is the dry months from November to March, when temperatures are milder.
